Library Learning Commons Access Services Policies

Circulation Policies

Bristol Community College students, faculty, and staff are required to use their Bristol Community College Campus Card/ID to borrow materials. Community patrons must apply for a Bristol/HELM Community Member card for use at Bristol Community College campuses only. Individuals are responsible for all materials borrowed. Borrowing privileges may be suspended due to excess fines or overdue materials.

Loan Period for Items

  • Books: 1 month

  • Audio Books: 2 weeks

  • Music CDs: 2 weeks ($1.00 per day per item overdue fines if not returned or renewed by due date)

  • Educational VHS/DVD: 2 weeks ($1.00 per day per item overdue fines if not returned or renewed by due date)

  • Feature Film VHS/DVD: 2 days ($1.00 per day per item overdue fines if not returned or renewed by due date)

  • Maximum Number of Items Borrowed at One Time: 10

  • Chromebook: Loan period is one semester, available on the first day of classes.  Chromebooks must be checked in by the due date. No renewals available. Chromebooks more than one week overdue are subject to lost/unreturned item fees (see Chromebook page) and hold placed on student account for registration, transcripts, and library circulation. 
  • TI-84 Calculators: Semester loan period. Calculators require registration in a math class requiring a TI-84 calculator.

  • Voice Recorders and LiveScribe Pens: Semester loan period.  Voice Recorders are first come, first served but may be requested through ODS.  LiveScribe Pens are recommended for and requested by ODS for students requiring an accommodation. 

Renewals

Renewals may be transacted by telephone at any campus, in person or via the HELM Online Catalog.

Returns and Overdue Books

Bristol Community College Libraries does not charge fines on overdue books; Other HELM member libraries may have policies that differ and those who chose to borrow material may be charged for overdue items that is borrowed from other HELM libraries.

Bristol Community College Libraries do charge overdue fines on videos and CDs ($1 per day per title). Students with extended overdue items may have their grades or transcripts withheld until books are returned or restitution made.

Lost/Unreturned Item Fee

Patrons are responsible for all materials borrowed. In the event of loss, they pay the current replacement price and processing fee. Materials lost, damaged beyond use, or not returned are subject to a $5.00 replacement fee in addition to the cost of replacing the item. Payment is cash or check made payable to LRC Trust Fund.  

Please note: All Bristol Community College borrowers incurring $10.00 or more in fees/fines will have their Library Learning Commons borrowing privileges suspended until their account is settled. Transcript and registration holds will also be placed in students' administrative account (Banner) until their fees/fines have been settled.
