Voting in the United States: Register in Rhode Island

Register to vote in the 2020 Presidential Election, learn where the candidates stand on important issues, and learn about the history of suffrage in the United States.

Rhode Island Requirements

In order to vote in Rhode Island, you must:

  • Be a United States citizen
  • Be at least 16 years old and be at least 18 years old to vote on Election Day, November 8th
  • Live at your Rhode Island address by October 9th
  • Not be in jail or prison for a felony
  • Not be currently judged incompetent by a court.

Fill out the form correctly, and return the form in person by October 9th to one of the locations described above.

 

Register by Mail:


Print out your Voter Registration Form.

Complete the form and mail it to your local board of canvassers by October 9th.

How to Vote (Early Voting & Election Day Voting)

Early Voting: Rhode Island


October 14th - November 2nd, 2020

Ballots can be filled out and sent through the mail. In order to vote by mail, you must:

  • Be incapacitated due to illness, mental or physical disability, blindness, or serious mobility impairment
  • Be confined to a hospital, convalescent home, nursing home, rest home, or similar institution
  • Be temporarily absent from the State because of military service, or will be outside the US on Election Day
  • Be unsure if you'll be able to vote at your own polling place on Election Day.

To vote by mail, download the Mail Ballot Application, fill out the application, and submit the form to your local Board of Canvassers by 8pm on Election Day, November 8th, 2016.

 

Election Day Voting: Rhode Island


November 3rd, 2020

Polls are open 7am - 8pm. If you are in line as of 8pm, you will be allowed to cast a ballot.

Bring an accepted form of ID.

  • Rhode Island Drivers License
  • US Passport
  • Photo ID issued by a school or college in the United States
