LGBTQ Nation is an online news magazine, reporting on issues relevant to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer community. We have a pro-LGBTQ+ point of view, but we don’t shy away from keeping a critical eye on the movement itself.
Though higher rates of binge drinking have been reported among sexual minority (lesbian, gay, and bisexual) youths compared to their heterosexual peers in the United States, questions remain about which specific structural factors drive these inequities. We test whether state LGBTQ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning) policy climate is associated with youth binge drinking, as well as whether that association is unique to sexual minority youth.
The present study is one of few to investigate both anti‐trans discrimination and anti‐trans prejudice. It examined four individual factors (religiosity; political beliefs; affiliation with LGBTQ [lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer] people; gender role beliefs) through a lens of hetero‐cis‐normativity to understand their association with anti‐trans attitudes and reported behaviors.
LGBTQ+ people have widely described harmful experiences in healthcare settings. To address this deficit in care, previous studies have focused on improving the education of nursing and allied health students to care for LGBTQ+ people, yet few evaluate faculty preparedness.
This study aimed to assess faculty's LGBTQ+-related health knowledge, self-efficacy, and inclusion related to curriculum.
Sexual minority (SM) men are more likely than heterosexual men to experience body dissatisfaction due to prevailing body ideals (e.g. lean and muscular) within the SM community. Negative body image can have harmful effects on well-being, and, by extension, sexual well-being. The current study aimed to investigate whether SM men's minority identification and LGBTQ+ community connectedness moderates the relationship between drives for muscularity and sexual anxiety.
As the latest advancement in AI, conversational agents and chatbots can imitate human conversation and support mental health, fostering diversity and inclusivity, combating stigma, and countering discrimination. In contrast, if not properly designed, they can perpetuate exclusion and inequities.
This study aims to examine the impact of generative conversational AI on the LGBTQ community.
We sought to identify how LGBTQ youths and adolescents use social media for connection with other LGBTQ peers and groups, identity development, and social support and how these affect mental health and well-being.
Rates of depression and suicide are rising in adolescents, with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) youth experiencing higher rates. We examined the relationship between team sports participation, depression, and suicidal ideation among a representative sample of adolescents (n = 46,537) in the Healthy Kids Colorado Survey.
Transgender, nonbinary, and gender expansive (TGE) persons experience pregnancies and have abortions, yet abortion care remains rooted in a gender binary, often centering the needs, experiences, and challenges of cisgender women. Despite guidance supporting gender-affirming sexual and reproductive healthcare (SRH), barriers for TGE people seeking abortions persist. We conducted an exploratory case study with key informants to understand their perception of TGE abortion seekers' needs with specific considerations for those in restrictive abortion settings.
The Shape of Sex is a spectacular examination of nonbinary history across European Christianity from the third to the fifteenth century. It promises an explanatory narrative to illuminate how binary notions of sex and gender were understood throughout the Middle Ages with an eye to their foundational importance for today.
