What is Literature Criticism?

Simply put, literature criticism is the assessment and interpretation of literary works.  The Hutchinson Unabridged Encyclopedia goes on to say that the term "criticism refers to all literary assessment, whether positive or negative." Criticism can be structuralist, semiological, feminist, Marxist, or psychoanalytical.
