Common Intellectual Experiences

A Common Intellectual Experience (CIE) is based on the concept of a core curriculum. It is a set of shared or similar learning experiences based on a broad theme. Bristol Community College has two such common intellectual experiences: the General Education Curriculum and OneBook.

The General Education Curriculum has 10 competencies integrated into every academic program, such as critical thinking, oral expression, and scientific reasoning and discovery. Bristol General Education Requirements

All students who graduate from Bristol will have had exposure to and training in these competencies as they are part of the liberal arts tradition and are closely aligned with desired skills in the marketplace.

The second Common Intellectual Experience is our OneBook program which is a series of events, lectures, classes, and discussions associated with a common read.
