General information about moving to HELM

Moving to HELM

Effective June 1, 2020, Bristol Library Learning Commons migrated from the SAILS network to
HELM (Higher Education Libraries of Massachusetts) & FLO (Fenway Library Organization).

We are pleased to share that we are now part of HELM, an extensive and innovative library consortia.  The decision to leave SAILS and join HELM is based on the need and a shared vision for relevant academic resources.  This change will enable our students to access material that is aligned with their program of study.  We feel this will enhance our resources and your library experience.

How will this change my library experience?

It really won't.  You will have access to the same resources.  We have been working hard so that the transition is seamless.  You will need your 900 number to access our resources and your library account.  Due to COVID-19, we are offering Contactless Services at this time, but we are excited to share that we are reopening July 12th with limited hours.

We no longer directly borrow from SAILS.

HELM is a different consortia then SAILS, and material from SAILS libraries should be returned to a SAILS library in order to be marked "returned" in a timely manner.  We are no longer part of the SAILS network after June 1, 2020.

The Bristol Community College community will still be able to borrow from external libraries. We are now part of an extensive academic network, and we are still able to borrow from HELM ComCat as well as being a member of the Massachusetts Library System.  We also borrow internationanly using the OCLC network of resources.  Of course, you can always use your local public library if you prefer the SAILS network.

HELM founding members are Holyoke Community College, MCLA, MassBay Community College, Middlesex Community College, North Shore Community College, Quinsigamond Community College and Roxbury Community College. HELM libraries are affiliate members of the Fenway Library Organization.
