What is Healthcare Information Technology?

Health information technology (health IT) involves the exchange of health information in an electronic environment.  Widespread use of health IT within the health care industry will improve the quality of health care, prevent medical errors, reduce health care costs, increase administrative efficiencies, decrease paperwork, and expand access to affordable health care.  It is imperative that the privacy and security of electronic health information be ensured as this information is maintained and transmitted electronically. - HHS.gov

What is Healthcare Information Technology?

As a HIM Professional, you will develop an expert understanding of the business and management of healthcare information to support patients and those in need. The challenges of tomorrow’s healthcare call for smart, talented, and well-trained people who work at the intersection of healthcare, business, and information technology. Upon graduation from the HIM program, students will be eligible to sit for the RHIT exam.

What is the employment outlook for
Healthcare Information Technology?

In 2008, the healthcare sector in Massachusetts added 419,000 jobs and the outlook for this industry remains strong.
